Freedomware PDF Print E-mail
Freedomware is software that is created by developers from all over the world. In order to get their work done these developers needed better software than what is currently being churned out at high prices by software corporations. As a result there are developers that create applications that do what they need them to do and do it well. Because they take a personal interest in the development of the applications they typically produce higher quality code than what you typically pay for.

Freedomware developers realize full and well that other people will need a quality program to get their work done as well. As a result they open up the code that is written to create the application to anyone interested. This means more people to view edit and improve the code that makes the program work. Anyone who has the skills and ability to contribute can be a part of improving it. This in turn creates a group of developers who work together to improve and secure this application continually. Because many of the developers are located all over the world development can often times happen 24 hours a day.

The process by which Freedomware get developed is akin to a pure democracy or meritocracy. It is a very collaborative process where even people who do not know how to code can get involved to improve the applications that they use to get their work done. Sometimes you can request that a new feature be added and it ends up in a future release.

Some examples of Freedomware applications that you may already know and probably use are:
  • Firefox. This is a very fast and secure web browser that most everyone is familiar with. We highly recommend that you download and install this browser and set it as your default today!
